A Crackling comedy of menace
"Darkly comic drama" The Stage
"A sense of menace invades every conversation like a razor-blade ... knock-out one-liners." Time Out
"Nothing sleeps out here, Wally... You fall asleep out here, something creeps up and eats you."
It's the dead of winter in an abandoned farmhouse on Dartmoor, and West has lost his dog. Now his only company is a mad tramp with a grudge against badgers and a waif-like girl. But when two ex-associates from London arrive, it seems his year-long exile is over. Except that their car has only two seats...
Written by the author of the triumphantly successful Jerusalem, this is a chillingly funny black comedy. The dialogue crackles with menace and humour in equal quantities, and the threat of violence lurks in every pause — but a return to events of the previous winter reveals a truth even worse than we thought.
